Usage[<small>మార్చు</small>]

Use this template in an etymology section of back-formations.

Parameters[<small>మార్చు</small>]

unnamed parameter
This template takes one mandatory parameter, and that's the etymon; for example, {{back-form|editor}} produces “Back-formation from editor.”.
nocap (no capitalization) and nodot (no dot)
By default, this template's output looks like a complete sentence, in that the word "Back-formation" is capitalized at the beginning and a period (full stop) appears at the end. To suppress these behaviors, the boolean options nocap and nodot exist. For example, where {{back-form|editor}} produces “Back-formation from editor.”, {{back-form|editor|nocap=1|nodot=1}} produces “back-formation from editor”. This is useful for prefacing and/or following the template with more explanation.
lang (language code)
By default, this template adds its article to Category:English back-formations. For non-English words, the lang parameter should be set to the language code; for example, {{back-form|mangeln|lang=de}} adds its article to Category:German back-formations. (As an added bonus, the word-link then points directly to the relevant language section, if it exists.)
gloss
For non-English etyma, it's usually a good idea to provide a gloss (very brief translation); this makes the etymology easier to understand.
sc (script template) and tr (transliteration)
If the etymon isn't in the Latin/Roman alphabet, and there's an appropriate script template (such as {{Cyrl}} or {{ur-Arab}}), then sc should be set to the name of this template (this lets us customize display of text in that script, using appropriate fonts; in an ideal world, it wouldn't be necessary). Further, if the etymon isn't in the Latin/Roman alphabet, then tr should be set to a transliteration.
alt (alternate display text)
For words in some languages, we use a slightly different form for display purposes as for linking purposes; for example, for Latin entries we write "ō" to indicate a long "o", but we still use "o" in the article title (see e.g. dubito#Latin). In such cases, the article title should be passed in as the unnamed parameter, but the display-purposes form should be passed in as alt.
nocat (no category)
If the nocat parameter is set to a non-empty value, this template won't add its article to any category. (This usually should not be needed, but is added for edge cases.)

Categories[<small>మార్చు</small>]

All back-formation categories should include the template {{etymcatboiler}}.
